30 years in the making

Dr. Kaufman began making these blocks when she was pregnant with her son, who is about to become a father.  Along with the blocks she also cross-stitched his birth details.  But life got busy and the blocks and stitchery long abandoned.  It was fun to put them together with Pat's help into a small quilt.

I finally finished the quilting after a false start, which I took out since I wasn't happy with it.  Fortunately I had only done two blocks before deciding I didn't like the way it was looking.  It seems harder to me now to do freehand quilting instead of my comfortable pantographs.  I have a lot more variety of pantographs now, and usually I can find something that seems much better, with more even coverage than I can do freehand.

It isn't an heirloom, but I'll be finishing the cross-stitch with the new details and adding it to the back.

It looks heirloom to me! I like the back better than the front cause I can really see the quilting.

I'm with Pat--I think the quilting you did is fabulous. What a wonderful HEIRLOOM the three of you have created from those sweet blocks.

What an adorable quilt and the birth info you said is on it makes it extra special. Your quilting is very wonderful.

That was so nice of you to put this together for her. I'm sure she will treasure it!
